COMMITTEE MEMBERS

SUE BREWSTER
President
The role of the club President is to lead our club.
Sue is a great representative for our club, she knows the inner workings
of surf politics and has the patience of a saint.
President is a pretty flash title but it is really the presidential team (aka The Committee) that does most of the heavy lifting!

DAVE COMP
Vice President
The role of the vice president is to be the President’s right-hand man and make sure her chariot (AKA Inflatable Rescue Boat) is always inflated and ready for action. The VP will attend meetings when the President is too busy attending to lifesaving (literally) matters and helping to make the world a better place.

LEONARD MEAD
Club Captain
The role of the club captain is to oversee the many aspects of our patrolling and lifesaving operations. Leonard is tasked with the mammoth job of creating patrol lists and patrol rosters every season along with ensuring the implementation of our guiding document - the Patrol Operations Manual.
Our club captain manages the BBSLSP PCs and VPCs (Patrol Captains and Vice PCs) and attends countless meetings with our committee, other clubs, our regional and national lifesaving organizations, all in order to coordinate the effective lifesaving operations at Bethells Beach.

BRIANNA MADDOX
Secretary
The role of the secretary is to provide much-needed and appreciated assistance and support to the committee. The secretary often gets lumped with other random duties as well so has to be a very competent multi-taskers and Bri is the person to see for patrolling uniforms, club bookings, and midwifery.
In her non-existent spare time, she also manages the growing number of IRB racing teams

MIKE BARKER
Treasurer
Mike is the money man.
The man who has the unwanted task of balancing the books. Mike is our long-time treasurer (eight AGMs and counting) and is always after an assistant – be they a member or someone who just wants to volunteer their time to help our very worthy cause – so please drop Mike an email if you know someone who can help him count the beans.

PIA LAUREN HARPOUR & PARYS SMITH
Chief Instructors
At BBSLSP, ongoing training and development is a #1 priority and puts our lifeguards at the top of their A-game. Our Chief Instructors are also top of their game with the role being shared by Parys Smith and Pia Harpour.
Parys and Pia know everything there is to know about surf lifeguard qualifications and if there isn't currently a course, they will find out how to make it happen.

Bobbie Shatwell
Events & Retention Manager
Bobbie is the perfect person for the role of Events and Retention Officer because as a long time member of BBSLSP, she totally gets what retention means. Her role is to bring alive the spirit of our club and Bobbies first love is to organize events that connect us - just ask her how many lifelong friends she has made throughout the years with the club. Bobbie knows what it means to be part of an inclusive, positive environment and that is exactly the type of connectivity she is creating for our members.

TUAKAU WHIU
Sports Manager
The Sports Manager role is no easy task and Tuakau spends much of her summer herding the senior sports competitors and registering them for the many sports events that happen up and down the country. Being a keen offical herself, Tuakau knows surf sport inside out and is always on the hunt for anyone and everyone who wants to represent our club in the sports arena.

SUE BEWSTER
Funding Officer
We love our Funding Officer as Sue is always finding new and creative ways to get funding for the important work we do, keeping our communities safe at Bethells Beach. As a volunteer organisation, we rely heavily on public support so if you would like to help us, please contact Sue or we've also made it pretty easy for you to donate online. DYLAN THORPE
Gear Steward & Powercraft Officer
The gear steward and powercraft officer look after - wait for it - our gear and powercraft equipment. Dylan spends countless hours at the club, fixing our lifesaving equipment and IRB gear that gets a hammering in our West Coast surf.
His primary passion is the IRB's, as an esteemed IRB racer in his own right and working for Rayglass Boats, he knows a thing or two about engine maintenance.
Dylan is our #8 wire guy.

MIKE CHAN FOUNG
Welfare Officer
Mike is a fantastic guy and he is the BBSLSP welfare officer.

Quite rightfully, our member’s health and well-being are a major part of our ethos, and Mike’s vast experience in this space, and being a general all-around good guy, means he can help with any welfare situation, no matter how big or small.
Our members know they can approach Mike about anything that might be going on for them or someone else. Mike has everyone’s welfare at heart.

LUKE JENNINGS
First Aid Officer
Luke is one of the many in-house paramedics we are lucky to have at our club and looks after our amazing first aid room, first aid kits, and any emergency medical care gear we use.

Luke makes sure all our first aid gear is the best it can possibly be and shares his extensive first aid knowledge to make our lifeguards the best they can possibly be. He doesn’t just stick a band-aid over things!
